She Left Her Paw Print In Our Hearts

In Loving Memory of Peachy

One spring day eight years ago, a litter was born to an outside cat we called Tiggy. One of the cats, I tried to outsmart. While she and her sisters were eating, I took advantage that she was distracted and I started to pet her. She started purring like a motor immediately! After that, we became good friends and we would let her in our house. We had two cats already, Skinny and Fluffy.

Skinny

Skinny had a pink toy mouse she was very attached to and Peachy would come into our house, find the toy mouse, and sprint out with it in her mouth! It was hilarious to watch, well, not to Skinny. LOL
Eventually, we took Peachy in as a pet. We spent countless evenings playing in the basement. Peachy could jump up and catch a ball with her paws, then she would pass it back to me. Then, when the fun was over and it was time to sleep, Peachy would take her all her toys and line them up in the corner of the basement. She made me look really bad haha. She had the habit of cuddling up to us, giving us her belly and after a few minutes, she’d nip at us! But Peachy was so endearing, no one could stay mad at her for long.

image

To officially keep her, we needed to take her to the vet. She got fixed and had bloodwork done. Sadly, the bloodwork revealed that Peachy had FIV. We were all so sad to find that out. However, we did everything we could to make her enjoy her life.
Peachy gained a queen status in our house, with a sort of immunity, getting away with her antics.

image

*yawn*

Peachy had the funniest yawn. She would open her mouth and her eyes so wide, it would look so cute.
After I got married and later divorced, Peachy never really fully forgave me for leaving her. Her favorite person from then on became my father. She wouldn’t let anyone else carry her and when she was in his arms, she had a look of bliss on her face. They developed a very close and special connection that lasted her whole life.

image

Peachy loved her daddy

My dad had a briefcase and she would go right over to it and hone her nails on it leaving unsightly scratch marks. We would threaten her, “we’re telling daddy!” and she would look at us with a defiant stare. After dad came home we would tell him, and he would laugh and say “that’s the Peachy!” So she got away with everything and knew it…we knew it too.  🙂
Peachy was always a nosy cat. She loved listening to my mom and myself talk. She always wanted to know the latest gossip. When we would whisper, she would bring her head up and try to listen…she was so cute. Peachy always had to be at the center of things.

image

One day we bought Peachy a toy cat called Cameo. My mom would make a meow sound while she made the toy move and Peachy would bite and beat up Cameo. Then when she got tired, she would groom Cameo and take a nap with him.

image

She also had a disturbing obsession with feet; my dad’s in particular. She would snuggle up to his flip flops and fall asleep on them.

image

With time, Peachy began to slow down a little and she took to hanging out in the bathroom. With her tannish orange fur, she camouflaged with the tan rug in the bathroom. We would enter the bathroom with caution so as not to step on her.

image

Other times, we’d find her on the bathroom window. Sometimes she would look sad but seem fine.

image

One thing I loved was how proper she was. She would sit up like a queen with her paws lined up and her tail wrapped perfectly around her paws.

image

With time, Peachy’s gums and teeth started to hurt and she would panic when she would eat. My father had her teeth taken out earlier this year. The vets were always impressed with her behavior.

image

The day she got her teeth out

We saw some improvement, but within a few months, the inevitable began to happen, the FIV began to take over and shut down her organs.
She began to hide in odd places; in closets, behind the toilet, under the bed. My mom became her caretaker; mushing her food and later blending it into a puree. The ten pound Peachy that would body slam our other cats to steal their treats was losing interest in food and water.
We knew she was suffering and my father made the difficult decision of asking the vet to put her to sleep. Our vet makes house calls and we didn’t want to stress Peachy, so we asked him to come over that same day, Monday, September 23. Unfortunately, our vet couldn’t make it then and offered to come and put her to sleep the next day at 10 am. My dad reluctantly agreed, since he wanted to end her suffering.
I remember Peachy actually looked at me that day. She hadn’t looked at me in what felt like months…but she looked at me. I can’t tell you what that meant to me.
Sadly, the next morning, Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at 5am, my mom woke me up to tell me that our beloved Peachy had just passed away on her own. I went downstairs to see her and say my goodbyes. It was gut wrenching to see what was once a beautiful, chubby, audacious, playful, loving, intelligent cat, lifeless. Her expression told me that she fought to live and was exhausted. My dad stayed the whole night with her. Mixed with feelings of grief and relief, my parents went to lay her to rest. My mom made a beautiful box for her to rest in.
It has been horrible to come home and find that there’s no Peachy there. I always close my storm door quickly because Peachy used to run out of the house sometimes. Now I grab the storm door and I remember….Peachy isn’t going to run out. I go into the bathroom carefully and I remember, Peachy isn’t here. I look at the bathroom window and Peachy isn’t there. She isn’t there adorning my dad’s flip flops. She isn’t there doing things to make us laugh. There’s a hole in our hearts now. We wanted to end her suffering and we did ask the vet to. We just hate playing God, but she did go five hours before she was supposed to be put to sleep, so I guess our decision for euthanasia was right.
We still beat ourselves up though with endless unanswered questions of what we could have done better, but I refuse to dampen my beautiful memories of her with doubt. She lived and loved for eight glorious years. Years of smiles and laughs that she brought into our lives and hearts. She will always be the funny, crazy cat who would steal toys and treats, who would play catch with me, who would take naps on my dad or his flip flops, who would sit up tall with her paws lined up properly, who had a beautiful and elegant presence and who was loved deeply by her family. Now she is resting peacefully in a place where she feels no pain and as much as it hurts us to not have her here, she’s no longer suffering, and that’s what matters most.

Beloved Peachy, you will be dearly missed. You brightened up our lives for eight years, now it’s time for you to rest in peace. We’ll always love you.

Radiant Red

Hello my fabs! Since it’s officially fall, I thought I’d paint my nails red with some gold designs for a nice autumn look.
I went to a wedding recently and my friend was nice enough to offer me her Indian jewelry to wear for the occasion. I jumped at the chance since I love Indian jewelry. The jewelry was…you guessed it….gold and red! Sadly, one earring and the necklace pendant lost beads, but they fell from convenient spots and I was able to jazz them up by adding rhinestones without damaging the authenticity of the piece.

image

Aren’t they just gawgeous?! So I paired the set with a red dress and a side swept pony tail with roses in my hair….but most important, I did my nails to match.
Now I had a dilemma. I didn’t know any Indian designs and I wanted to have an Indian theme going on. So I googled some designs. I hadn’t realized how much paisley is used in Indian designs. It looked easy enough to draw (boy did I eat my words lol).

image

Here they are right after I finished them. I added dots to random areas to give it a genuine feel. The tear drops from the paisley design turned out to be a bit of a challenge, but I’ve never been great with a pain brush. What I like about nail art is that it really doesn’t have to be perfect..or at least that’s what I tell myself LOL.
Here are some more images of the look.

Et….voila!
Gotta love Indian style!  🙂
Namaste!

Fun With Nails Again :-)

Every week, I try to redo my nails. I need to do this especially if I’m anxious or stressed because, like making jewelry, doing my nails in funky designs is like a mental escape for me. The more stressed I am, the funkier the design.
So I’d like to share the latest designs, whether epic or failure, that I’ve done.

image

Butterfly wing nails, with a rose gold morganite ring.

image

Green hued galaxy nails, with a green crystal cluster ring made by moi.

image

Pink with black polk a dot  nails, with a kunzite ring, and a button bracelet made by moi.

image

Pink zebra nails! My toes are stickers, but I hand painted my fingernails to match. Here I’m wearing a simulated pink opal ring.

image

This time I did butterfly toes and fingers!

image

image

My fingernails started chipping, but my butterfly toes still looked good, so I wanted to stay with the nice summery orange theme. So I did orange Ombre nails with reverse Ombre lines on my ring finger. Mom called them Candy Corn Nails!! I liked the name.  🙂

Well, that’s the latest. Like anything else, it has to be your “thing”. I love when people say ” I wish I had time for that.” But these are the same people who spend most of their time on their hair, or baking or at the salon. It’s a question of taste or if you simply have the patience to do it. I wish I could do hair, I’d gladly spend hours on my hair if I knew it would come out right, but hair isn’t my thing. Lol
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed!
Here’s to staying fab!  😀

Thank You Nail-Art-101.com!!!

I haven’t done my nails in like…forever. Only on special occasions I’d force myself to do them just a solid color, maybe a little glitter, sometimes I wouldn’t even bother doing them.

I don’t know how it happened, but being an astronomy lover, I wondered how to achieve a galaxy effect on nails. So I came across this amazing website (see title) that has very easy tutorials on how to do different designs! For those of us who are visual learners like myself, they have pictures too!

Like anything else, it takes patience and practice but it’s well worth it AND easier than you think! You may mess up your designs in the beginning, but that’s what glitter is for! Glitter covers a multitude of mistakes!  And if glitter doesn’t fix the problem, so what? Either remove the polish or leave ur nails like that and say you meant to do that lol.

Here are my results- the good and the severely flawed lol (keep in mind I took these pics right after doing my nails and hadn’t cleaned up the edges yet)

image

Galaxy nails. The first time I did this, they came out horrible and I couldn’t even keep the picture because I was so embarrassed. These came out cool though.

image

This was my first try at leopard nails. I love pink.

image

My first try at ombre nails. They came out so terrible I had to cover them with glitter, but I did get complimented on them, so I guess they were ok. I wasn’t satisfied with them though.

image

My second try at leopard nails. This time with a white background with some tan sponged on for a touch of drama to make it look more animal-like.

The next design was inspired by this wristlet:

image

image

Snake skin? These are just pink nails with black crackle on top. This pic doesn’t do it justice but it looks like pink snake skin and I LOVE pink snake skin!

My next nail art was inspired by this scarf:

image

I’ve seen grey/silver leopard everywhere this year so I thought I’d give it a go. And I looooove that ring!

image

Here’s another blue ombre which was another disaster that I had to cover up with glitter, but the blue hues allowed me to show off my new Paraiba Tourmaline ring. 🙂

image

Here is yet another desperate attempt at pink ombre which again needed to be glammed up with glitter. I did like how it came out though. The glitter had green, pink and silver flecks making it very colorful, so it was appropriate to wear with this lovely lab created color changing Alexandrite ring. 😉

image

This is a lovely half moon zebra stripe design I did while rocking an Eiffel Tower ring made by yours truly. I’m pretty impressed with this being my first try at zebra stripes.

image

I still need to master the ombre look….help! :-\

So that’s everything I’ve tried out so far. I love the nail art 101 site. Not only has it taught me how to make my nails look great, but with my nails looking so awesome, I feel more confident and feminine. So thanks nail art 101!!

Here’s to being fabulous!

Have a laugh….draw something!!

I used to play Draw Something with many friends, then one friend got married, another one just aggravated me because she would overthink her drawings and the rest just got bored and stopped playing. So I uninstalled the game.
A few weeks ago, one of my best friends texted me and told me she missed playing Draw Something because we’d always get a laugh from it. I mean really, no picture comes out the way you want it to. They always end up looking like a four year old did them, making us cry of laughter sometimes. I missed those laughs too. So we both reinstalled and started playing again.

Here are some pics we drew- the good, the bad, and the “what the heck is that supposed to be?!”
Can you guess the answers?

THE EVOLUTION OF SEXY: Part III – Timeless Beauty and Why I Love Grace….

In my opinion, she is the most beautiful woman that ever existed. She was the personification of her very own name since she carried herself with grace like no other. She was soft spoken, delicate and charming. She was as beautiful as a princess….and eventually earned that title. She was…..

image

Grace Kelly

…the eternal Grace Kelly.
Not only was she a natural beauty, she was an inspirational fashionista. She could get away with any look and OWN it. Any time I watch any of her movies, I find myself so captivated by her that I end up losing the storyline! The way she walked; like a ballerina, the way she talked; perfect diction, her mannerisms were so delicate. She just embodied her name.
But there’s one more thing I love about Grace; her look has always been timeless. She embraced her age and knew when it was time for her look to evolve while always remaining beautiful. Here are some examples….enjoy!

image

Here she was very young, flaunting her slender figure. A model of class. She’s not in a trashy or suggestive pose and she still looks sexy and beautiful.

image

Still young here, she’s wearing a strapless dress with an amazing necklace. Though the necklace is stunning, you still can’t take your eyes off her. She’s wearing the necklace, the necklace isn’t wearing her. Once again, no provocative poses here, she looks relaxed and ladylike.

image

Here is Her Serene Highness looking amazing in her royal garb. Very refined.

image

Grace Kelly a bit older…still off the shoulder gown but with a higher neckline. Notice how she looks classy, elegant, respectable AND sexy/beautiful. Love the earrings!

image

A bit older Grace again with an off the shoulder gown with an even higher neckline smiling confidently. No age crisis here! Beautiful! She does NOT look sl*tty, she looks amazing.

image

Judging by the date on the magazine, she was 50 years old. Still looking lovely and sophisticated. She doesn’t look like she’s needy for attention or like she’s trying to prove a point by trying to look young and ridiculous (see part II of this series). She looks like she has embraced her age and took it as an opportunity to discover new ways of looking beautiful.

image

Here is one of her last pictures. She’s wearing an elegant age-appropriate dress with long strand pearls adorning her. She still looks fabulous. She is the epitome of timeless beauty. Looking through these pictures, the thought “my goodness she aged” never crosses your mind! All you think is “wow she’s older here and still looks amazing!”
Did she dress like she was twenty when she was fifty? Nope. Did she put on the same amount of makeup in her fifties as she did in her twenties? Negative. She embraced her age and adjusted her look accordingly. Did she give up and look like she rolled off the bed? No! She still did her hair, matched her ensembles with jewelry and accessories. Grace Kelly set the tone for timeless beauty. You don’t have to have her face and figure to copy her sterling example. All you have to do is REMEMBER YOUR AGE AND EMBRACE IT, and you too will achieve timeless and effortless beauty and your “sexy” look will evolve and reach higher plains.

image

Thanks for setting such a fine example of class, beauty, modesty, sexiness and grace, Grace. 🙂

When You Love A Cat

*If you are not animal friendly or cat friendly, please exit this page.*

“Have you ever loved somebody so much
It makes you cry
Have you ever needed something so bad
You can’t sleep at night
Have you ever tried to find the words
But they don’t come out right
Have you ever, have you ever” – (Have You Ever performed by Brandy)

Humans- as good as some of us may be, are imperfect. We all have bad tendencies. Some humans are malicious, bitter and vicious. Some gossip and ruin others’ reputations. Some betray those who are close to them. Many “love” with conditions or ulterior motives. There are very few genuinely good people out there and if you find one, it’s like finding a diamond.
I have never known of an animal that has loved with condition. If anything, they ask for a nice home, a comfotable spot to sleep in, regular meals and love from their owners. In return, the owner receives unshakable devotion, love and loyalty. Though each species has different ways of showing love and affection, (dogs and cats) they still show it.

image

I have been chosen to be honored and privileged with the unconditional love of a cat called Snappy. She is very affectionate. As soon as I come home from work, she happily chirrups and looks at me attentively with her big green curious eyes. She is unquestionably obedient. The way she loves is like no other cat I’ve ever known. The way she curls up with me, the blissful look on her face when I pet her, the way her eyes light up when I talk to her. I have never experienced an attachment this deep with a pet until Snappy came along.

image

So imagine my shock when she was diagnosed with FeLV (feline leukemia virus) last week during a routine vet visit. I was and still am destoyed. I noticed she has been congested and breathing strangely. I also discovered a lump in her throat. I thought it was an inflamed gland or a tumor that could be removed. However after bloodwork, the vet told me otherwise. He even offered to put her down. But I couldn’t….I just couldn’t.

image

Snappy at the vet. She was sooo good.

Other than the congested breathing and the swollen lymph nodes, she is a very happy and normally functioning cat. She sleeps, plays, uses the litter box, eats and shows love like any other 2 year old kitty.
To protect the other cats in our house, we put her in my room where she can enjoy her time. I am providing everything I can to ease her and please her. She seems very happy with the attention and has adjusted nicely to the change of atmosphere. Until I see serious “signs” of her health deteriorating and her quality of life waning, I will keep her safe in my room. And no matter what happens or when it happens, I will keep her safe in my heart.

image

slumber party with Snappy

She is the best cat I’ve ever had. She is my joy. I can’t imagine being without her or saying goodbye to her; I tear up just thinking about it. However, I read that she only has months to live, if she’s well taken care of and everything is just so, up to two years. I can’t even think of it. I know with some time, it will sink in and I will have to come to terms with the gravity of her illness. I’m trying to not think about the death sentence she received but to cherish, relish, appreciate and celebrate every moment of her dear life.

image

Regardless of unwanted opinions from people, I’m making as many special memories with my beloved little girl as possible. Every moment we’re together, it’s like my mind takes a picture of the moments to store in my heart and mind forever. Trust me, I will treasure them always.
